Barely a few months after slipping into Michael Jackson’s rhinestone glove for Antoine Fuqua’s biopic, Jaafar Jackson is trading the moonwalk for a maximum-security cell block.
Deadline broke the news on August 3: the actor has landed a role opposite Will Smith in “suppermax” a thriller from David Gordon Green, the filmmaker behind the Halloween trilogy. Smith and AnnaSophia Robb play FBI agents chasing an impossible murder inside a supposedly escape-proof prison, and Jackson’s part, still under wraps, is described as central to the plot.
It’s a striking pivot for the newcomer whose uncle’s story just became the first biopic ever to cross $1 billion at the global box office. The premise is a locked-room mystery pushed to its limit. Two FBI agents, played by Will Smith and AnnaSophia Robb, investigate a seemingly impossible murder committed inside a maximum-security prison.
Amazon MGM has yet to reveal who Jackson will play, though his character is described as pivotal to the central plot. Robb boarded the project in July, a few weeks before Jackson’s casting was announced.
