While I know what each verse means, I do think this is a subtle way of saying she is ready to step back from all this. My theory is that the three verses represent three devastating parts of her life.

verse 1. Cynical clones and hunters with cell phones obviously regarding her being under the microscope since she was age 16, media, paparazzi, tabloids, constant criticism. Just wanting a picture or news about her to criticize her. Could also be in reference to the infamous Kim and Kanye phone call that, Which now has been proven, Kim edited the tape and she was the one that lied, not Taylor. Either way, I think verse 1 is about those times, that blow to her, what Kanye did to this young teenager, the media, the backlash. I think verse 1 is about this phase in her life where these horrible things happened that shaped her since she was a teenager And early 20’s.

verse 2. Her label sells her catalog of music, which she writes but does not own, for $300 million to the very people who have worked so hard to tarnish her reputation. Her enemies. This was devastating event #2 in her life. She can’t get over it, it has burrowed under her skin in heart-stopping waves of hurt. Verse 2 is talking about this second devastating event that shaped her late 20’s.

verse 3. This obviously is a love song wanting to be with her beloved forever. But, I’ve thought about the final verse and bridge. A red rose grew up out of ice covered ground with no one around to tweet it. she is away from the media, cameras, paparazzi trying to get a piece of her, and she is alone. Also could be a play on words, which Taylor is known to do such as if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make a sound? If the red rose grew but no one was around to document it, did it happen? I think this represents her insecurity that is this really happening, this love, if it’s not documented, is it real.
