Virginia nurse arrested after newborns in NICU suffer unexplained injuries
A former hospital worker, Erin Elizabeth Ann Strotman, 26, was arrested for allegedly causing unexplained fractures to three babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Virginia.
The incident occurred in late November or December 2024. Strotman faces charges of malicious wounding and felony child abuse.
The hospital discovered the injuries during an internal investigation and notified authorities. They have since taken measures to enhance security, including installing live-streaming technology and requiring safety training for caregivers.
The hospital has also stopped accepting new babies to the NICU as a precaution. Police are re-examining similar cases from 2023 and 2024 as part of the investigation.
The hospital’s parent company, HCA Virginia, expressed shock and sadness over the development, emphasizing their focus on patient care and employee support.
