news:Watch how Travis Kelce Assigns Blame After Super Bowl Blowout…see more

The Kansas City Chiefs took a devastating 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes failed to get much going on offense with the Eagles defense sacking him a career-high six times.

Mahomes finished the night completing 21-of-32 passes for 257 yards, 3 touchdowns, a fumble, and two interceptions, including a pick six that Eagles rookie Cooper DeJean ran 38-yards to the house.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce recorded four receptions for 39 yards. While Kelce did enough to break Hall of Famer Jerry Rice’s record (33) for most career Super Bowl receptions (35), the 10-time Pro Bowler was not in a celebratory mood on Sunday night.

Kelce did not speak at the podium after the game, however, he did talk to reporters in the Chiefs locker room. The 35-year-old All-Pro didn’t mince words about what went wrong.

“You know, hats off to the Eagles man,” Kelce started. “They got after us, all three phases.” When asked what the difference was in the game, the veteran assigned blame to himself and the entire team.

“Couldn’t get it going offensively, I mean they just got after us on all three phases and then on top on that you know, turnovers, penalties, playing behind the sticks on offense, dropped passes. Not taking advantage of the play call and executing them.

“There’s a lot that goes into it. You don’t lose like that without everything going bad.”

While the Chiefs defense did a great job of containing Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, holding the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year to just 25 carries for 57 yards, that’s about all they did well.

When asked about the most shocking part of the Chiefs’ loss, “We haven’t played that bad all year,” Kelce answered.

Overall, “[We] just couldn’t find that spark,” he added, “couldn’t find that momentum… This team is gonna find till the end forever and you saw that. Even with the score late, we’re always gonna fight.”

Even after going down 24-0 at halftime, Kelce had faith they’d make a comeback. “Never lose doubt. Never lose faith, especially at the half.

As for Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s message after the game, “This one’s gonna hurt,” Kelce said. “Let it hurt and figure out how to get better because of it.”
