Mel Gibson was definitely up for anything during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday.

The 61-year-old actor and director gamely cut a random passersby’s hair named William outside the studio on Hollywood Boulevard as part of a hilarious segment, but Gibson shocked even the host himself when he later allowed William to shave off his impressive beard in return.

Meanwhile, Kimmel was in disbelief that Gibson actually shaved off his beard on live television.

“This is unbelievable,” Kimmel said. “I don’t even know what to say about this.”

Earlier in the segment, Gibson explained that he actually had some experience cutting hair due to his eight children. “I used to cut my children’s hair when they were little and they didn’t have a choice in the matter,” he shared. “It wasn’t a great job but it got them through. They’re still alive, they survived.”
