Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are two wins away from making history in the Super Bowl era. But a familiar foe in Josh Allen and Buffalo Bills stands in their way.
The Chiefs (16-2) host the Bills (15-4) Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, with kickoff at 5:30 p.m. CT. The winner will advance to Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, where they’ll face the winner of the NFC championship game, the Philadelphia Eagles, who defeated the Washington Commanders 55-23.
Kansas City is seeking to become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls, and to win its fourth in seven seasons. Mahomes has reached the AFC championship game every season that he has been the Chiefs’ starter, and he has beaten the Bills three times in the NFL playoffs, including a conference championship win in the 2020 season.
Buffalo, on the other hand, hasn’t been to the Super Bowl since it lost four straight (1990-93). Allen, an MVP candidate, led the Bills to a win over Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional playoffs, their first win in that round since 2020.
The Chiefs, who feature former Tennessee Titans wideout DeAndre Hopkins, are the AFC’s top seed, while the Bills are seeded No. 3.
